  • Have you guys ever heard of Iman Ali? She’s a Pakistani supermodel who has multiple sclerosis. For anyone who has been to Pakistan, or India even, will know that it’s got plenty of sunshine yet they still get MS. Iman Ali has become a poster girl for MS in the subcontinent, valiantly crusading for Asians with MS not to hide their disease, encouraging homeopathic and holistic approaches to managing the condition. (Watch her at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vEb11UGWy8, though much of the dialogue is in Urdu, she dovetails into English a lot so you get the gist of her spiel.)

By the way, how does on participate in your study Prof G? Are there drugs involved? Lumber punctures? Do you have to be a resident of London and the Home Counties to take part (I am neither)?

  • Are researchers studying people who get MS despite very low risk? for example, people who live in areas with very low MS prevalance and still get MS.

They might be the best sources of information on what causes/triggers MS

  • Re "Are researchers studying people who get MS despite very low risk? for example, people who live in areas with very low MS prevalance and still get MS." Yes, people who are at "low risk" will be of interest to us as they provide a comparison with high-risk people. I will update you all regarding the study prior to its launch.

  • Re "Have you guys ever heard of Iman Ali?"

No I had not heard of her until now. When we go live with our study we will need massive participation, at least 10,000 people at risk of MS. Therefore if you can help by getting any celebrities on board with this study will help. Please spread the word in relation to this study and blog; the more people who know about it the better. Thanks.

  • Re "By the way, how does on participate in your study Prof G?"

No LPs. We will be asking all MS'ers to ask their siblings and children to register and provide some background information to start and to agree to be followed-up for several years.
