MS and Electric Devices

Relationship between the use of electronic devices and susceptibility to multiple sclerosis. Khaki-Khatibi F, Nourazarian A, Ahmadi F, Farhoudi M, Savadi-Oskouei D, Pourostadi M, Asgharzadeh M. Cogn Neurodyn. 2019 Jun;13(3):287-292

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune condition influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Dirty electricity generated by electronic equipment is one of the environmental factors that may directly or indirectly impact MS susceptibility. The current Study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the usage time of electronic equipment and susceptibility to MS in North-West Iranian people. This approach was carried out upon 471 MS-diagnosed patients and 453 healthy participants as control group in East Province of Azerbaijan. By utilizing structured questionnaires, the information of all participants about usage status of some electronic devices was obtained. Data were analyzed by IBM SPSS Statistics version 18.0 and the quantitative variables were analyzed by Chi Square and Independent sample t tests. Pvalues below or equal to 0.05 were considered as significant. Among the evaluated items in this approach, the utilization of cell phones and satellite television dishes were significantly higher in MS patients (p < 0.001, p = 0.07). Furthermore, a correlation was observed between sleeping with cell phone and/or laptop under the pillow (p = 0.011) and MS disease; however, there was no significant differences between MS patients and controls in computer using and television watching. Our study reinforces the concept that the utilization of some electronic devices and the continuous exposure to dirty electricity would increase the risk of MS disease thereupon by enhancing the cognizance of adverse effects of dirty electricity and reducing the time spent over electronic devices during adolescence and adulthood the occurrence probability of MS could be declined.

Sorry I havent got time to do any post, ProfG is in the far East, but you know my feeling on correlations and MS. So here is a new one.

Can you remember sleeping with your laptop or phone?…Maybe it is some weird thing in from the middle east…only joking.

What next? I wonder

About the author

  • Is ths serious?! What a waste of money for doing this research , my opinion . If it only were that easy to find the MS cause.

    • I suspect there was no money involved just some student time….doing a project. But culturally do you sleep with your computer I use mine alone but I dont sleep with it.

  • Yes,
    This one is extraordinarily stupid!

I suppose sleeping with your cell phone under your pillow COULD be a symptom of some sort of neurological disorder..

    • Anyone laughing with the “stupidity” of the author or what a crapload of nonsense this is, before answering to this post, have you taken the time to see what:

      A) dirty electricity is:
      B) how it affects the human body:
      C) what can be done to alleviate those being impacted by it?

You would be surprised how all the above has been answered in relation to other illnesses before. For example, in a US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health abstract, the result showed this: “Dirty electricity elevates blood sugar among electrically sensitive diabetics and may explain brittle diabetes.”

      It goes on to say:
“Transient electromagnetic fields (dirty electricity), in the kilohertz range on electrical wiring, may be contributing to elevated blood sugar levels among diabetics and pre-diabetics. By closely following plasma glucose levels in four Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics, we find that they responded directly to the amount of dirty electricity in their environment. In an electromagnetically clean environment, Type 1 diabetics require less insulin and Type 2 diabetics have lower levels of plasma glucose. Dirty electricity, generated by electronic equipment and wireless devices, is ubiquitous in the environment. Exercise on a treadmill, which produces dirty electricity, increases plasma glucose. These findings may explain why brittle diabetics have difficulty regulating blood sugar. Based on estimates of people who suffer from symptoms of electrical hypersensitivity (3-35%), as many as 5-60 million diabetics worldwide may be affected. Exposure to electromagnetic pollution in its various forms may account for higher plasma glucose levels and may contribute to the misdiagnosis of diabetes. Reducing exposure to electromagnetic pollution by avoidance or with specially designed GS filters may enable some diabetics to better regulate their blood sugar with less medication and borderline or pre-diabetics to remain non diabetic longer.”

So, next time people begin calling names for apparently stupid questions related to MS, please check out what the author wants to share. Having MS is no mean feat, I myself have been living with MS and trigeminal neuralgia for the last 14,5 years, and extensively write about its pitfalls for several MS publications.

(I am not affiliated with the authors of this abstract; I simply want to point out that doing some reading before answering might just help you form better judgments. You can find me on, not because I want to get my name out there, but because there’s so much more to every person with MS, the least thing we can do is be happy they want to do put time and money into us).

  • I am not Iranian but a Belgian living in Ireland, and perhaps my issue might be something that can help even though I suspect many will simply laugh this away.

A few months before my MS diagnosis I noticed that excruciating stabbing pain in my left eye, ear and in a tiny spot just behind my left ear showed up during mobile/cell phone calls. The pain was so intense and recurrent I just walked into Emergency begging doctors to find out what was causing the pain. The result was MS and trigeminal neuralgia related to my MS. Other triggers set off TN also, but the most painful result is that caused by holding my phone against my ear and face while talking on the phone.

Because of the lack of research into this at the time, I’ve given up on asking my medical team if mobile phone usage and radiation in particular, could be the cause of the nerve pain. Despite the WHO saying that phones can cause harmful radiation, there not much literature out there so when I saw this post I wanted to check if others are having the same symptoms caused by mobile phones.

  • You can buy simple electromagnetic radiation protection things on E-Bay etc. They’re made by pouring molten plastic over iron filings in an ice cube tray. End result is a cube of plastic with iron filings in it. That and a tinfoil hat and no need to worry.

Please know that I was not, and am not laughing at anyone,
I’m not even questioning the idea that. “Dirty electricity” may have adverse effects on our health.
I’m crying because this study as near as I can tell, does nothing to advance our understanding of the issue, and may even be counterproductive.

People are very good at spotting coincidence or associations. We love to do it. We do it habitually, automatically.
It’s a skill that’s kept us around and multiplying for a long time.
Unfortunately, accurately discerning cause and effect is much harder. So hard that even scientists seem to struggle with it at times.

    Oh well,
Rant over, I’ve got this dreadful disease that limits my ability to see and write on here
Was it too much Dirty electricity?
Was it the Grungy Rock & Roll?
    Funky Bass?
    Or Shabby Chic?

    Who knows?
Hope you’re all having a good day too. 😉
